Diffusion Experiment

Diffusion Experiment

Today in chemistry we have been learning about particles and diffusion.

Diffusion is when particles moving from high to low concentrations spread and become less concentrated
Diffusion occurs in liquids and gases

The experiment we are doing is seeing how diffusion works in hot and cold water.

My hypothesis is that the particles will diffuse faster in hot water because the particles are already moving very fast which will cause them to spread apart faster.

Method:
1. Half fill your petri dish with cold tap water
2. Place the petri dish on your work bench and allow the water to become settled.
3. Using the tweezers, place a single drop of potassium permanganate in the centre of the petri dish.
4. Observe for 5 minutes
5. Repeat the experiment using hot water.

Equipment: Petri dish, water, tweezers and potassium permanganate power.

Results

It turned out as I expected and the hot water diffused much faster than the cold water.
The cold water ended up diffusing in a circle.

My Health and Safety Knowledge

Kia ora, I am Aryan and today we have been writing about health and safety.

In home economics you need to make sure you are following the rules otherwise it could cause some problems.

If you don't clean your table or dishes then  there could be dangerous bacteria waiting for its next victim.
You also need to make sure you are wearing clothing that is appropriate for cooking.

In conclusion food safety and hygiene is very important if you want to stay safe while cooking.

Thank you for reading my blog post and I hope you learnt something new about health and safety in the kitchen.

States of Matter

States of Matter

Are there different types of matter? - QuoraKia ora and welcome back to my blog. Recently we have been learning about the states of matter.

The first state of matter is solid, a solid has particles that are not moving and are vibrating. these particles are bonded together. A solid has a fixed shape and volume which means the shape and volume don't change.

The second state of matter is liquid, the particles in a liquid move a little bit and some of the particles are bonded. A liquid has no fixed shape but has a fixed volume.

The third state of matter is gas, the particles in gas move very quickly and have no bonds which mean they freely move around. A gas has no fixed shape or volume which means a gas is free to roam the world however it wants.

Melting is when a solid gets heated up and changes to a liquid. Evaporating is when a liquid gets heated up and turns into a gas.

Freezing / solidifying is when a liquid gets cool and turns into a solid and condensing is when a gas gets cool and turns into a liquid.

Thank you for reading my post and I hope you learnt something new.

Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset

Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset

Kia ora, today I will be comparing a growth mindset and a fixed mindset.

A fixed mindset is when you believe that you can't learn new skills and it is all natural talent. With a fixed mindset you wont try knew things as you think you wont be able to do them.

A growth mindset is when you are always learning and trying out knew things. With a growth mindset you can gain lots of knew skills as long as you try. With a growth mindset you can accomplish almost anything you want as you don't give up.

In life if you want to have a growth mindset you should be open to try knew things and leave your comfort zone, try be more optimistic in life and never give up! Say you are at a sporting event and are only trying one sport that you know you are good at, instead you should try as many sports as you can as you might find one your are amazing at!

Its important to have a growth mindset as it helps you live life to the fullest. Without a growth mindset life can get boring but with a growth mindset life can be amazing!

Thank you for reading my post and I hope you now understand what a growth mindset is compared to a fixed mindset!

App Development Reflection

Hey there, here is my reflection on my time in DTE. This term we have been working on an app and learning the process of app and game development.

In the begging of DTE we started learning how to develop an app on gamefroot, we had to make a narrative for our game and plan it out. We also learnt about infographics and how to make one.

My team decided that our app was going to be a school schedule system.

Here is my game, the plot is about a nucular bomb that explodes and your goal is to save the world.

Serial Dilution

Today in Chemistry we did a Serial Dilution experiment.  We had 6 tubes and filled 4 up with 5ml of water and one with 10ml of water. We then filled the 10ml tube with potassium permanganate.
We then took 5 ml from the 10ml tube and  put it in the next tube, we then repeated this cycle until we were finished. As you can see it got more diluted as we went on.

Arts Kete Reflection

Kia ora, for the past few weeks we have been doing perspective drawing in arts kete.

We have learnt how to use one-point and two point perspective.  In the beginning it was really hard to understand perspective but over time it got easier.
