Hey there! Here is my film pick a path. Try to get as many answers correct as you can!

The Cheeseburger test!

Hey there welcome back to my blog! Today we will be doing an experiment on a cheeseburger to see what it is made out of. First I will tell some interesting info.

What is a carbohydrate?: A carbohydrate is set in two groups, simple sugars and complex sugars, carbohydrates give you energy!

What are proteins?: Proteins form the man part of animal cells, that means foods high in protein are usually from animal tissue. Protein is required for growth, repairing damaged tissue, hormones and energy.

What are lipids?: Lipids (fats and oils) are used for making cell membranes, energy, keeping us warm and protecting our organs.

Aim: To test if a sample food contains, carbohydrates, protein or lipids.

Hypothesis: I think Cheese will be lipids, sauce will be carbs, bread will be carbs, meat pattie will be protein and pickle will be carbs.

Method: Complex sugars -
1. Place about 2 mL of the sample in a test tube.
2. Add 3-5 drops of iodine and mix.

Results : Bread has complex sugar, meat doesn't have complex sugar, cheese doesn't have complex sugar, pickle has complex sugar

Bread has simple sugar, meat doesn't have simple sugar, cheese is not a simple sugar  and pickle is a simple sugar!

2. Take off will be from the second marker.

3. Land will be measured from the back foot.

4. Land with both feet together.

5. If you are over the second marker when you jump it is a fowl.

My longest was 4m!

Testing for simple sugars and protein.

Testing for simple sugars - the Benedict's Test

Aim: Testing foods to see if they are simple, complex or Protein.

Method: 1. Place about 2 mL of the sample into a test tube and then add 5 drops of Benedict’s Solution.
2. Then heat with a water bath until it changes colour.

Equipment: Water bath, test tube tongs, Benedict's solution, a sample of food

Conclusion: Bread, apple and potato are all simple sugars.

Testing for protein - the Biuret Test

Aim: To test if a sample of food contains protein

Hypothesis: My hypothesis is that potato, milk and egg will be protein but bread sugar and apple wont.

Method:
1. Place about 2 mL of the sample into a test tube and add 5 drops of sodium hydroxide.
2. Add 5 drops of copper sulphate
3. Shake the test tube gently from side to side

Potato, apple, bread and sugar have no protein, but milk and egg do.

So in conclusion I am surprised that potato didn't have protein but the reason it doesn't it because its a carbohydrate. I think these experiments were very interesting and I learnt some new info.

Learning Reflection

Hey there! Welcome back to my blog, today we were asked these questions so here are my answers.

A conclusion on what the 'Whare tapa wha' is and how it illustrates Hauora:

Whare Tapa Wha is about is the four walls of well being which are Taha Tinana (Physical) Taha Wairua (Spiritual) Taha Whanau (Family) and Taha Hinengaro (Mental & Emotional Well being).
This is useful to understand because we can understand our feelings better and understand others better.

How did you participate during this lesson?:

I think I participated okay because I didn't contribute that much when we were asked a question.
Next time I will contribute more to the conversation.

What is the current state of your hauora:

My hauora is well because I have been getting more sleep recently so I'm not tired during the day.

Thank you for reading my blog!

Curiosity Quest!

Hey there, today we had to choose a topic that we are interested in and research that topic.
I chose the FBI as I find the FBI very interesting.

After researching this I now wonder what other organisations similar to the FBI such as the Navy Seals operate.

I hope you learnt something new, thanks for reading!
