Anti - Vietnam War Song

Creedence Clearwater Revival -Fortunate Son

Lyrics -

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
They're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
They point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, yeah
But when the taxman comes to the door
The house look a like a rummage sale
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
Yeah, some folks inherit star-spangled eyes
They send you down to war
And when you ask 'em: "How much should we give?"
They only answer: "More, more, more"
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no military son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, one
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

This song is very patriotic to America and American culture, but this song is still a protest song to the Vietnam war and war in general.

"Some folks are born made to wave the flag
They're red, white and blue"
This song is also about defying american authority and claims that the ones who are in power and that are in charge have done nothing for our country.

"It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no senator's son, son"
It also claims that privilege is inherited and that wealthy people are always destined to have a healthy lifetime.

"Some folks are born silver spoon in hand"
They also bring the idea that rich people are full of lies and that they are unwilling to make sacrifices for their country.

"But when the taxman comes to the door
The house look a like a rummage sale"

The song really enforces the fact that people inherit thoughtless patriotism and that is also the reason the song is called fortunate son.

"Yeah, some folks inherit star-spangled eyes"

Both members of Creedence Clearwater Revival were drafted into the military but were able to avoid getting sent to Vietnam which is a little ironic since the song is about people avoiding the fact they have to make sacrifices for their country but in turn that does mean the song is correct and that wealthy people are able to avoid any issues that occur in their life.

So in conclusion this song talks a lot about how patriotism is inherited and that the war is useless.
